NSP 158 :  Angantyr - Ulykke CD/LP

Release date CD: March 30th, 2018
Release date LP: tba.

Initially started as a synth/ambient project by sole member Ynleborgaz in 1997, Angantyr quickly changed its style to raw, classic Scandinavian Black Metal in 1998 and has remained true to its roots throughout the project’s entire history.

With each new release, Ynleborgaz was able to strengthen the position of Angantyr as one of Denmark’s leading Black Metal acts, with numerous dedicated followers around the world.

Now, two decades after the project’s first release, Angantyr’s 6th album delivers just what fans expect and have grown to love throughout the project’s entire existence – raw, hymnic northern Black Metal that possesses all trademarks of Angantyr’s unique style.

With the help of session members Angantyr has been playing lots of successful live shows at various festivals and in clubs in the past, and during the coming tour the band will play their 100th gig.

The CD will be released as Collector’s Edition in Digipack, limited to 999 copies, as well as regular edition in jewel case, both including an 8-page booklet. A vinyl release is planned as well and is expected to become available at the end of 2018.

Reviews:

"The potential shown in those early albums has really come to fruition here, 20 years of experience and a considerable amount of talent, not to mention a huge improvement in the production department makes Ulykke an incredibly strong album and a first-rate example of how traditional black metal should sound and still be relevant in today’s era. [...] In summary then, I’d say Angantyr is far better than a band playing traditional 90’s Scandinavian black metal in 2018 has any right to be. [...] If you’ve never heard Angantyr, now is a good time to find out why this band has picked up a cult following over the years. No nonsense, no frills, just first class black metal exactly how it used to be, and one I can happily recommend to anyone with any degree of liking for this style."
